FELLOWSHIP OF THE SOCIETY is available free of charge to organists of any ability who fulfil the following simple criteria: Do you act as an organist for funerals or play at a crematorium?
If so, you are cordially invited to join this internet-based Society which aims to share information and conviviality with others involved in this important ministry.
Fellowship can also be offered as a gift to those whose service demands recognition in this way (more details from the Registrar). This could well be appropriate in crematoria where the organist is not employed as a permanent member of staff, but still one who has given many long years of largely unrecognised service.
The SCO is purely a social organisation dedicated to those actively involved in the musical aspects of the funeral business. It is hoped that members will share some of those amusing experiences that happen during funeral services but which might only appeal to other musicians. It includes a discussion area where members can talk about rates of pay, although please note that it not intended that the SCO will act as a pressure group in any way. Do look at our discussion group where you can see a few thoughts already shared.
On acceptance, members of the society will receive a letter of welcome, a Fellowship certificate and may append the letters FSCO after their name. If they wish, they may also purchase a very reasonably priced academic hood.
To join, please fill in our application form.
